On May 22, 2010, a programmer sitting somewhere in Florida made what looked, at the time, like an unremarkable online transaction. Laszlo Hanyecz paid 10,000 Bitcoin for two pizzas. The deal cost him roughly $41. Today, those same coins are worth north of $700 million. At certain points during 2025, the figure crossed $1 billion.
